Technical Guidelines for Climate Resilient Practices

Under the project ‘Enhancing The Resilience Of Tourism-Reliant Communities To Climate Change Risks’ a GEF Project under the Least Developing Country Fund (LDCF), Outcome 1 was intended to see climate change adaptation mainstreamed into tourism-related policy instruments and public-private partnerships.

Climate Early Warning System and Tourism in Samoa

This work formed part of the STA executed project ‘Enhancing the Resilience of Tourism Reliant Communities to Climate Change Risks’, funded by the Global Environment Facility – Least Developing Countries Fund (GEF-LDCF) via the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

TDA Area 3 - Manono

Based on the previous investigations, the community visioning process, further investigations undertaken as part of this project and the timeframes and budget associated with this project a prioritized series of projects has been developed for TDA 3.

TDA Area 4 - Eastern Savaii

This Management Plan builds on work previously undertaken as part of the Enhancing the Resilience of Tourism-Reliance Communities to Climate Change Risks Project (the Project) which described hazards, risks and vulnerabilities for existing tourism assets within TDA 4.

TDA Area 5 - North West Savaii

This Management Plan identifies and prioritises adaptive measures for tourism management planning for North West Savaii, building on the community’s vision and integrating climate change adaptation and disaster risk management measures. The Plan focuses on small to medium tourism operators and the communities in which they operate.

TDA Area 6 - South East Savaii

This Management Plan identifies and prioritises adaptive measures for tourism management planning for South East Savaii, building on the community’s vision and integrating climate change adaptation and disaster risk management measures.

The project ‘Enhancing the Resilience of Tourism-Reliant Communities to Climate Change Risks’ is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the UNDP and executed by the Samoa Tourism Authority.

National Tourism Climate Change Adaptation Strategy

The high vulnerability of the tourism sector to the impacts of climate change underscores the need to effectively build the sector’s capacity to be more adaptive and resilient to these kinds of impacts.

The main goal of the Samoa – Australia Partnership for Development Project is “to safeguard human development in Samoa from risks associated with climate change on planning, water resources, fire prevention and tourism sectors while simultaneously reducing green house emissions across these sectors”

Response Actions to Cyclones

This section houses infographics to assist the industry with preparations for a cyclone as well as evasive precautions to undertaken in the event that one occurs. One has been prepared for both the Beach Fale operator and the Hotel operator.
